About us

A Community of Support

Widow.ie was founded in 2009 by Laois woman Colette Byrne after the loss of her husband. Since then it has grown into a national online community where widows, widowers and bereaved partners in Ireland can find information and speak with others who have experienced the same loss.
The community is supported by volunteer moderators who have also been bereaved. In 2018, Widow.ie received national recognition when it was honoured with a People of the Year Award for supporting widowed people in Ireland.
Widow.ie is independent, not a charity, and membership of the community is free.
